Can You Feel Lonely When You’re Around Other People?

Short answer: Yes.
Longer Answer: Fuck yeah, dude!

The feeling of loneliness has very little to do with your surroundings and way more to do with connection. It is the lack of reciprocity that triggers loneliness.

I have been in a room filled with hundreds of people before and I have felt alone. It’s not their fault either. Sometimes, I have nothing to offer to the conversations. I end up in my head, battling anxious thoughts on an endless loop until I finally just shut everything off.

When everything goes silent, that’s when the loneliness shows up like a desperate, thrice-divorced father of two, buying me one last shot before the bar closes.

Of course, I’m going to go home with him. There’s nothing else to do. Loneliness is the only thing at this bar that wants to fuck me and I am so desperate for a connection that I will mistake it for love.
